Panda bears are nocturnual and crepuscular; they sleep mainly in the daytime and are awake at dawn, dusk, and the night. These mammals are fantastic climbers and usually feeding occurs on the ground. Occasionally, panda bears may travel in tiny packs consisting of their family like with their mothers. It is more likely to witness giant panda bears traveling alone.
Mating Habits and Reproduction
Mating happens typically in the early stages of winter, from January to the middle of March, with cubs being born from the middle of June to late July. Also, the duration of the pregnancy can be as long as 145 days for panda bears in captivity in Washington, D.C. and as little as ninety days for those in captivity in the San Diego Zoo. This clearly states that depending on the location, it may take longer for the egg to fertilize. Multiple weeks before the cubs arrive, the mother begins to build a nest of sticks and leaves. An average of two cubs are born.
Slideshow
Here is a slideshow to demonstrate how drastically panda bears change as they become older. As I stated earlier newborn panda bear cubs are 1/900th of the relative size of their mothers.
